The Knesset stands at the center of Israel's democratic system of government. The decisions made
by the Knesset shape the character of Israeli society, and that which happens within the Knesset
building determines the continuing history of the State.
The Knesset is a dependable reflection of the Israeli nation: It consists of representatives of various
social, ethnic, and minority groups. In the Knesset debates - whether in the Plenum or the committees -
the Knesset Members portray a wide variety of viewpoints and opinions regarding all political, economic,
social, and other facets of our lives. The Knesset has the exclusive right to pass laws for the State of Israel,
and the main focal point of its activities is indeed legislation.
The Knesset Website is meant to reflect the work of the Knesset and to bring it directly to the public.
One can find there much up-to-date information about what is happening in the Knesset. The Website includes
"Divrei Haknesset" (Plenum protocols in Hebrew), all protocols and other documents of the
committees (Hebrew), a detailed description of the legislative process, notifications of Knesset events,
a history and virtual tour of the Knesset, and much more.
In the Information Age of the 21st Century, I am also proud to present our online committee debates -
broadcast in realtime with the ability for the public to participate as well. In addition, one can view the
Plenum debates live on the Knesset Channel which is broadcast through the website.
It is my hope that the Knesset Website will enable you to be impressed with the work of the Knesset
and better understand its character.
I invite you not only to surf the website; rather, I hope that you come to the Knesset building in Jerusalem
in order to see it up close. The Knesset staff and I are happy to be at your service.
