Dani Karavan
Dani Karavan is an Israeli sculptor, born in 1930 in Tel Aviv. He was a member of Kibbutz
Harel and studied at the "Bezlel" academy of arts. In 1955 he studied art in Florence and
in "Grande Chaumiere" in Paris.
During the 1960's, using bold perceptions, Karavan focused his work on creating environmental sculpture with
concrete. This style can be seen in the monument he created during the years 1963 through 1968, for the Negev
Brigade which is located in Be'er Sheva.
In 1984 he was a guest lecturer at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was later involved in the "Yitzhak
Rabin Tolerance Square" environmental project, which was inaugurated in May 1996 at the UNESCO sculpture park
in Paris.
Karavan was awarded the Israel Prize (1977). In 1996 he was titled by UNESCO as an "Artist of Peace," as well
as receiving an award in Germany for his environmental sculpturing work.
Karavan designed the front walls of the Knesset Plenum (1960's) and the Knesset auditorium (early 1990's).
