Polling Stations ("Kalfi")

    Total Number of Polling Stations: 8,111

    7,786 will be set up in voting districts around the country
    184 will be set up in the hospitals (for an expected 42,000 ballots)
    42 will be set up in the prisons and detention centers
    99 will be set up in the Israeli diplomatic delegations throughout the world for official representatives abroad.
    The area in Israel having the largest number of polling stations is Petach Tikva, with 664.


Polling Stations Abroad

    Those who are entitled to cast their votes at such a station include: Employees of the State serving in a diplomatic position abroad, employees of the Jewish Agency, the World Zionist Organization, the Keren Kayemet, and the Keren Hayesod who are positioned abroad as part of their organizational work, plus their spouses, and their children up to age 20. The number of eligible voters abroad is 3,171.

    The elections abroad will take place on January 25, 2001.
    The first polling station to open abroad is in Wellington, New Zealand, which opens January 24 at 23:00 Israel time. The last to open are those on the West Coast of the United States (Los Angeles and San Francisco) on January 25 at 19:00 Israel time.

    The smallest number of eligible voters (3) per polling station is at the one in Alexandria, Egypt. The largest number (335) is in New York.

    The ballots from abroad will be placed in double envelopes and sent to the Knesset by elections day, February 6, 2001.
