Parliamentary Inquiry Committees
|
Parliamentary Inquiry Committees are appointed by the plenum to deal with issues that the
Knesset views as being of special national importance. Each committee is meant
to present its final report before the end of the Knesset during which it is
appointed.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committees established by the Knesset plenum:
First Knesset:
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Detainees at the Jalami Camp;
appointed on May 28, 1951; reported on August 3, 1951
Eleventh Knesset:
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Road Accidents in the State of Israel; appointed on
November 10, 1987; reported on November 21, 1988
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Fire that Broke Out on the Night of January
30-31, 1988, at the Gas Works in Kfar Ata. The Committee wasn't appointed.
Twelfth Knesset:
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Credibility of the Poligraph; appointed on
July 24, 1991. The Committee did not submit a report.
Thirteenth Knesset:
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Drop-Outs from the Education System, the
Phenomenon of Illiteracy, and Solutions within Various State Frameworks, Including
Frameworks within the IDF and after Military Service; appointed on July 12, 1993. Never submitted a report.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Bedouin Sector in Israel; appointed on
January 18, 1994; reported on February 28, 1996.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Murder of Women by their Husbands
(later changed to "Spouses"); appointed on February 13, 1995; reported on June 17, 1996.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Expansion and Intensification of Violence
amongst Youths and towards Children and Youths; Was set up on June 7, 1995. Has never
submitted its report.
Fifteenth Knesset:
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Lessons to be Learned From the Maccabiah Bridge Disaster; the
decision to set it up took place October 25, 1999. The committee presented its report on 9th July 2000.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee for the Location and Restitution of Assets of Holocaust Victims;
The committee was established February 15, 2000, and its interim report was presented on 2 August, 2000.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Examination of the Implementation of the National Health Law;
it was set up November 29, 1999, and included all of the members of the Labor, Welfare, and Health Committee.
The Committee published its findings on March 1, 2000.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Trading in Women; The committee was established
June 13, 2000.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Continuing Financial Crisis of the Local Governments. The decision to
set up the committee took place on June 14, 2000.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Violence in Sports, established January 1, 2001.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Issue of Water, established June 26, 2001. The committee
published its final report on June 2, 2002.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Social Gaps in Israel was established on
July 25, 2001 and headed by MK Ran Cohen. The committee submitted an interim report.
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on Traffic Accidents, headed by MK
Nachum Langental, was established on February 4, 2002, and presented its final
report on January 21, 2003.
Sixteenth Knesset:
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Trading in Women; The committee was re-established
February 26, 2003 and chaired by MK Zahava Gal-On.
On December 31, 2004, the committee finished its work as a parliamentary inquiry committee.
Starting January 1, 2005, the committee is continuing its work as a subcommittee of the
State Control Committee.final report
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee for the Location and Restitution of Assets of Holocaust Victims;
The committee was reestablished March 25, 2003, and chaired by MK Colette Avital. The
committee submitted its final report regarding Israeli banks on January 18, 2005.
On December 31, 2004, the committee finished its work as a parliamentary inquiry committee.
Starting January 1, 2005, the committee is continuing its work as a subcommittee of the
Committee for Immigration, Absorption, and the Diaspora.
